Endoplasmic Reticulum 2019

The Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) is the first compartment of the protein secretory pathway. Beyond its key roles in secretory and transmembrane protein biogenesis, the ER also controls calcium and lipid homeostasis. In the past 15 years, the involvement of ER homeostasis in pathophysiological mechanisms has brought many interests to the field. In particular, ER dysfunctions have been associated with chronic diseases such as diabetes or cancers, with degenerative disorders or with infectious pathologies. As such, pharmacological or genetic alterations of ER functions might represent interesting avenues to develop novel therapeutic strategies against those diseases. In the 2019 ER meeting in Paris, we propose a blend of presentations describing fundamental and translational studies that illustrate how a better understanding of ER basic biology will certainly have major impact on human health.

This conference follows the very successful one organized in Paris in October 2017 - "Endoplasmic Reticulum Functions in Physiology and Pathology” , that focused on broad and overlapping topics related to the functions of the endoplasmic reticulum with particular emphasis on protein folding and quality control mechanisms, functionality of the secretory pathway, interorganelle communication, stress signaling in physiological and pathological contexts. The event covered this broad area of investigation by presenting a large spectrum of molecular, cell biological and pathophysiological approaches applied to different organisms and models, and gathered a strong mix of excellent speakers covering a broad range of topics including the Lasker 2013 award recipients, Pr Peter Walter and Pr Kazutoshi Mori.

The meeting will take place in October 9 - 11, 2019 at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurosciences of Paris, located in the center of Paris, hosting around 200 participants, and providing opportunities for extensive interactions in a friendly and comfortable environment. Applications for short talks and poster sessions are now closed.
