It is widely known that the environment influences the development and physiology of living organisms. Many environmental phenomena, such as air, water and soil pollution, global warming, or ocean acidification, have been linked to abnormalities in embryonic development in multiple species, including humans. These abnormalities can be the cause or a cofactor of many of the most common diseases. In addition, many natural environmental phenomena, such as day-night cycles, light, and seasons also influence development. If the description of all these events is often well established, the knowledge of their cellular and molecular mechanisms is more fragmentary.
The symposium will include one day of conferences where prestigious speakers from several European countries will be invited to share their expertise.
The objectives are to review the most advanced research in the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of environmental phenomena on organism development, and to promote the exchange of ideas within the EU.
